Going out at night is certainly different now to what it was 12 months ago, but there is good news on the horizon thanks to the easing of restrictions in many parts of Australia. And let’s face it, compared to the rest of the world, Australia in general is going pretty well!
We’ve worked hard this year, and we’ve faced isolation, businesses closing and loss of our own social lives; but the hard work has paid off and we’re returning to normal life – slowly, but surely. If we want things to stay this way (and improve even more), we all have to play a part and one way to do that is to ensure we adopt good habits.
The Sydney based Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) has recently launched a new campaign, Check. Check. Check., aimed at providing younger patrons with knowledge about the importance of following COVID-19 hygiene and safety guidelines at venues.
The aim of the campaign is to support venues by showing patrons the simple steps they need to complete to stay safe.
The campaign focuses on the following:
- Check in – customer details are entered into a system for accurate contact tracing.
- Check your hands – customers need to wash their hands with soap or use medical grade sanitiser regularly while they are out and about.
- Check yourself – remember the 1.5 metre rule and stay away from strangers, and also remember to stay seated where necessary.
It can be hard to erase what we’ve always done in favour of these new laws being introduced around the country, but they are essential. And venues can help to make it easier for customers to adapt.
Some of the ways they can do this include:
- Sharing the campaign on social media to enhance awareness, as well as adding information about the campaign to their website
- Providing easy to use check in systems, such as QR codes and apps, so people can easily register their details
- Ensuring they have hand sanitiser at every door to their venue, and also strategically placed throughout the interior of the building
- Placing stickers and signs to remind people of the 1.5 metre social distancing rule
- Heading to checkcheckcheck.org.au to register your venue (participating venues will receive merchandise to help promote the campaign message, including hand sanitiser, posters and coasters – while stocks last)
You can also download marketing material to use on your social media and share information about the campaign directly from the website.
The simple fact is, as long as people continue to do the right thing, and as long as venues continue to encourage this behaviour, the sooner we can get back to business as normal. If we all play our part, we can expect restrictions to continue to ease and as we move into 2021, hopefully we’ll start to see some semblance of normal life again.
The Check. Check. Check. campaign is one example of how we can help to reinforce the three things that are our new normal, and if the general public adheres to these, with the help of venue owners and managers, we can continue to stay safe and enjoy doing the things we love.
